Red Tide Volume One

Red Tide, is an independent study that explores the creation of a prototype graphic novel through the lens of graphic design, bringing together research, storytelling, and visual practice into a single cohesive work. Rooted in an investigation of Gothic medieval iconography and its influence on contemporary design, the project examines how historical visual language can shape modern narrative forms. Combining illustration, painting, writing, and design, the work functions as an all-encompassing creative process culminating in a fully realized, readable graphic novel. Set in a world governed by elemental forces and shifting winds, the story follows Oskar Rosso, a mercenary bound to the Pigeon Company, as the Oldcountry Empire fractures and the mysterious Red Tide alters the balance of nature. Amid the chaos of the Siege of Linthal Dam, Oskar is thrust into a decisive mission that challenges survival, loyalty, and fate. This graphic novel ultimately reflects on purpose, the power of nature, and the resilience of human will.
